NATO should support a free Belarus: Latvia, Lithuania, Poland

"NATO must make it clear that a democratic, stable, and prosperous Belarus, independent of Russia's will and Kremlin infighting, is important for the Alliance." The presidents of Latvia (Egils Levits), Lithuania (Gitanas Nauseda), and Poland (Andrzej Duda) emphasized this today in a joint letter to the NATO secretary general and the heads of state and government of the Atlantic Alliance.

In the letter, the three presidents called attention to the fact that cooperation between Russia and Belarus harms not only the security of the region but also the entire Euro-Atlantic space.

"The territory and resources of Belarus are being used by Russia for a brutal and illegal war of aggression against Ukraine, which testifies to the ever-closer military integration of the two countries," the document reads.

"Its latest expression is the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus. This aggravates the war in Ukraine and poses a direct threat to the security of our community."
