Raphael's famed first female portrait
and his even more famous last one are the stars of a new show at
Palazzo Barberini that is hosting 50 works from the Galleria
Borghese until June 30 as the storied Roman museum undergoes
EU-funded restoration.
The Young Woman With A Unicorn (1505-6) is being exhibited
alongside the Portrait of a Young Woman, aka La Fornarina,
widely believed to be the artist's lover and painted a couple of
years before his death after an intemperate night of lovemaking
at 37 in 1520.
The show 'Raphael, Titian, Rubens, Masterpieces From The
Borghese Gallery At Palazzo Barberini', is one of the most
keenly awaited exhibits in the Italian capital this year.
