Israeli action at Rafah in southern
Gaza is extremely concerning, Defence Minister Guido Crosetto
said Tuesday.
Israeli forces have taken control of the Palestinian side of the
Rafah crossing into Egypt ahead of a feared ground assault which
the US and UN have been warning would have catastrophic
consequences for the civilian population of about 1.5 million
who have taken refuge from incessant bombardments and attacks
there.
"It's an action that is extremely concerning for much of the
international community," Crosetto said on the Israeli advance
on L'Aria che Tira on La7 TV.
"We've asked Israel to stop because the attack risks causing
still more innocent victims in an unacceptable number. It means
moving more than a million people, putting innocent women,
children and men that have nothing to do with Hams in a worse
condition than now".
The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza says almost 35,000
civilians, many of them children, have been killed in Israeli's
relentless retaliation for the horrific Hamas attack on southern
Israel that killed 1,200 people and took over 200 hostages on
October 7.
