A "multisensory journey," as the organizers call it, among local gastronomic productions to discover the history and culture of Karst, Friuli, Istria and the Balkans: Farmer & Artist, the food and wine event that on Dec. 2 at the Covered Market, will bring together 40 farmers, masters of good and sustainable food, is back. From vegetables to cured meats, from natural wines to craft beers, as well as educational and musical moments and tastings to understand the history, places and people who created the flavors. The event, organized by GAL Carso - LAS Kras, the Municipality of Trieste, Slow Food Italy, Fondazione Campagna Amica and Io Sono Fvg, was presented today at the Museum of Oriental Art in Trieste. The market will be open to the public on Saturday, December 2, and during the day, in addition to various performances, video stories of the Karst and its farmers will be shown.Taste workshops will be set up: themed guided tastings for adults with products from Eastern Herzegovina and other Balkan locations; and for children workshops between art, food and biodiversity.
For Serena Tonel, deputy mayor of Trieste and councillor for Economic Activities, "Farmer & Artists will be a good vehicle for promoting the products of the food chain of the Trieste area but also of the regional one." David Pizziga, president of GAL Carso - LAS Kras works "to reunite Trieste with its historic countryside, made up not only of Carso, but also of Istria, Friuli, the Balkans and, hopefully soon, Austria."Raoul Tiraboschi, vice-president of Slow Food Italy believes that "local food policies, in the relationship between cities and peri-urban areas, are developing rapidly in many cities in Italy, putting the relationship between citizenship and food back at the center.Farmer & Artist represents an important first step to build together a local food policy that enhances short supply chains with low environmental impact."
