The Vatican has sold London property
on Sloane Avenue that it bought in a loss-making deal at the
centre of a criminal trial, Juan Antonio Guerrero Alves, the
prefect of the Vatican Secretariat for the Economy.
"The sale contract has been signed," said Guerrero Alves.
"We have received a 10% deposit and everything will be concluded
by the end of June 2022.
"The loss from the alleged fraud, which has been spoken of a
great deal and is now subject to the judgement of the Vatican
courts, had already been considered in the budget.
"The building has been sold for more than the valuation we had
in the budget and the estimate made by specialized institutes".
In October a Vatican court dropped the case against Cardinal
Angelo Becciu, the highest-ranked Catholic cleric ever to face
charges of financial crimes, in relation to the scandal.
