(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 30 - Jon Rahm and Tyrrell hatton beat
Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele 2&1 in the last of the
second morning's Ryder Cup foursomes in Rome to give Europe a
huge 9.5-2.5 lead meaning they need just five more points from
the afternoon's fourballs and Sunday's singles to win back
golf's most famous trophy.
A score of 14.5 wins the event, which is taking place for the
first time in Italy, at the Marco Simone course just outside the
Italian capital.
The points still to be gained are 16 counting Saturday
afternoon's four fourballs and Sunday's 12 singles.
USA went into the epic clash as clear favourites having thrashed
Europe by a record 19-9 at Whistling Straits two years ago, but
have not won on European soil in 30 years.
On Friday they became the first team ever to emerge from a day's
play winless, after Europe swept the morning foursomes 4-0 and
notched a win and three halves in the afternoon's fourballs.
