(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 29 - Justin Rose sank an eight-footer at
the last to tie the last fourball between him and Robert
MacIntyre and Max Homa and Wyndham Clark, after Homa had missed
a 12-footer for the match.
The half left Europe with a 6.5 to 1.5 lead over USA after the
first day of play at the first Ryder Cup in Italy, at Rome's
Marco Simone course.
The only win of the afternoon, after Europe swept the foursomes
4-0 in the morning, was for Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick,
who beat Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele 5 and 3.
The other two games, between Viktor Hovland and Tyrrell Hatton
and Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth, and between Jon Rahm and
Nicolai Hojgaard and Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka,
finished all square.
Rahm shot two eagles in the last three holes. (ANSA).
