(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 29 - Action at the 44th Ryder Cup is
underway after Team USA's Scottie Scheffler hit the opening
tee-shot on hole one at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club at
Guidonia, near Rome, to kick off the foursomes.
World number one Scheffler and his team mate Sam Burns were up
against Europe's Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton in the first match.
The other contests also got started soon after, with the noisy,
colourful crowd singing football-stadium-like chants.
Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg (Europe) are against Max Homa
and Brian Harman (USA); Shane Lowry and Sepp Straka (Europe) are
taking on Rickie Fowler and Collin Morikawa, and Rory McIlroy
and Tommy Fleetwood (Europe) face Xander Schauffele and Patrick
Cantlay.
Among the fans watching are sports stars Gareth Bale, Novak
Djokovic, and Carlos Sainz. (ANSA).
