(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 28 - The 44th Ryder Cup officially got
underway on Thursday with stunning opening ceremony at the Marco
Simone Golf & Country Club near Rome, where the best golfers
from the United States and Europe will face off in the sport's
epic team contest form Friday to Sunday.
"Here we are after eight years of work. The dream has come
true," said Giovanni Malagò, the president of the Italian
Olympic Committee (CONI).
"It's a marvellous advert for our country".
It is the first time that the Ryder Cup has taken place in
Italy.
The ceremony featured two British artists, Tom Grennan and Carly
Paoli, who sang the Italian national anthem at the end.
Among the highlights was the moment the Italian Air Force's
Frecce Tricolori display team flew over the course. (ANSA).
