(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 22 - NO one bet a euro on the success of
the first Italy-based Ryder Cup, taking place at Rome on
September 29-October 1, Italian Golf Federation President
Franco Chimenti said Friday.
"I'm sorry for those who hoped it wouldn't take place, that's
the country we're living in," he said at the presentation of the
info point on the event at Rome's Termini rail station.
"The event, however, is on. No one bet a euro on its success,
but it has been, and it will be crazy."
He added: "Today I was at the course and I was left speechless
by its grandiosity. It's a formidable thing, you'll see how many
people will come. Whether (President Sergio) Mattarella will
come, it's up to him, I hope so".
The 2023 Ryder Cup will take place at the Marco Simone Golf &
Country Club, at Guidonia, just outside the Italian capital.
