(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 07 SET - The first foreign promotional office of the Port Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea and Alpe Adria SpA opened in Budapest.

The first intermodal service between the Pier VII of the port of Trieste and the railway terminal of Budapest, CEO of Alpe Adria Antonio Gurrieri recalled, was launched in 2005, "a service that today can count on the 50% partnership between Alpe Adria and the To Delta group, and on the operational railway management of Rail Cargo Austria".

A rising trend has been recorded since 2016, when about 300 trains were operated and transported about 20,000 TEUs/year, until the 2019 boom - the Authority explained - with 1,049 trains/year (+ 250% compared to 2016).

"The increase in weekly frequencies of the rail link with Budapest - underlined the Authority president, Zeno D'Agostino - is a clear sign of the surprisingly positive reaction of the Hungarian market, which is also the result of the synergies activated with the Fvg Region and the ability of private operators to serve Hungary's industrial areas." Recently, the Hungarian public company Adria Port invested about 100 m euros in a multipurpose terminal in the Noghere area, on 32 hectares. "This is a significant result both for the Italian system and for the potential development it opens up in the framework of the growing integration of the two countries' economies," said the Italian ambassador to Hungary, Manuel Jacoangeli.
