Putin tells Lukashenko, 'Belarus is a reliable partner'

Meeting in St. Petersburg

(ANSA) - MOSCOW, 13 LUG - Belarus is "a reliable and stable partner" and is honoring all loans despite the sanctions: the Russian President Vladimir Putin said, taken up by the Interfax agency, in a meeting in St. Petersburg with Aleksandr Lukashenko.

For months in Belarus, mass protests have taken place against the Lukashenko regime and the alleged electoral fraud with which the current Belarusian head of state, in power since 1994 and nicknamed "the last dictator of Europe," officially won the presidential elections in August 2020 with 80% of the vote.

However, the authorities suppressed peaceful demonstrations with police batons and waves of arrests. (ANSA).
