(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 30 - Global football events can go on
despite a surge in COVID cases due to the more infectious
Omicron variant, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said on a
visit to Expo Dubai 2020 Wednesday.
"Worrying doesn't help, you have to first solve the problems,"
he said.
"We're still optimistic. We think everything's going to be OK.
Last year the situation was worse than this, because we didn't
know the virus and it was harder. I'm optimistic and I think
that the major events in world soccer will be able to go ahead
and crowds will be able to see them".
Ceferin said the Expo was "fantastic" and Dubai was "a very open
city, very welcoming".
The 22nd World Cup is scheduled to take place in Qatar from 21
November to 18 December 2022. (ANSA).
