(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 4 - Infrastructure and Sustainable
Mobility Minister Enrico Giovannini stressed the need for major
public works projects to be sustainable as he addressed a
conference on this issue at the Italy Pavilion at Expo 2020
Dubai.
He said that Italy had supported a declaration proposed by the
United States regarding sustainable infrastructure during the
COP26 UN Climate Conference in Glasgow.
"Issues that are closely linked to the ones we are discussing
here are being debated at COP26," Giovannini told the 'Shaping
the Future of Mobility' conference.
"If we want to build new infrastructure - and we do - we must
follow the standards set by the G20 years ago under the Japanese
presidency that describe what sustainable infrastructure must
be.
"The development of the science of materials, the use of IT
techniques, the capacity to consider the life cycle of an
infrastructure while also thinking about the re-use of the
materials at the end of the life cycle are all ingredients that
we are putting at the centre of our plans to build new
infrastructure and (develop) our country's mobility system".
