(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUNE 18 - The United States have formally delivered to Bulgaria a government-to-government agreement proposal for the acquisition by Bulgaria of eight fighter aircrafts and other military equipment.

The US Embassy delivered to the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense a so-called 'Letter of Offer and Acceptance' on Monday, which includes "a potential agreement on Bulgarian acquisition of eight F-16 Block 70 fighter aircraft, weapons systems, associated long term sustainment and support systems, as well as comprehensive training for pilots and support personnel," a statement from the embassy reads. The letter "is comprehensively tailored to best meet the requirements of the Bulgarian Air Force," the embassy said, adding that Washington "looks forward to finalizing this contract with the Government of Bulgaria in accordance with Bulgarian procedural requirements." At the beginning of June the US Congress "approved Bulgaria's acquisition of a complete package of eight fully equipped jets", additional aircraft systems and other weapon systems worth around 1.6 billion dollars, the Bulgarian news agency BTA recalled. At the time the US Embassy specified that that is not the final total price, which it has still be decided, BTA said.
