Bosnia: Peace committee condemns Rep. Srpska's draft law

PIC says no to the creation of an SJC for Bosnian Serb entity

11 February, 22:51
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, FEB 11 - The adoption by the parliament of Republika Srpska (RS), the Serb-majority entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, of a draft law on the establishment of an autonomous Supreme Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (SJC) within the entity has been severely criticized in Sarajevo by the Peace Implementation Council (PIC).

The PIC spoke of an apparent attempt of the Bosnian Serb entity to unilaterally assume constitutional responsibilities of the state, which would represent a clear violation of the Bosnian Constitution and the country's legal system.

Nevertheless, the parliament - regional media reported - passed the bill with 45 votes in favor. Before returning to the parliament, the measure will now be subject to public discussion for 60 days. (ANSA).
