Transmission is still widespread also in Central- Eastern Europe

26 February, 18:08
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, FEB 26 - As of February 21, 13 countries in Europe had reported increasing case notification rates and test positivity, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said in its newest surveillance report.

"Although the overall epidemiological situation is improving in most countries, absolute values of these indicators remain high, suggesting that transmission is still widespread. It is possible that increases in admissions to hospital, ICU and mortality will follow in the coming weeks in those countries that are currently observing increasing case notification rates," ECDC noted.

Among the 29 countries with high case notification rates (at least 60 per 100 000), increases were observed also in several nations in Central- and Eastern Europe, including Austria, Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, and Poland, the ECDC informed.

For people over 65 years of age, high levels or increases in the 14-day COVID-19 case notification rates compared with last week were observed also in Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovenia.

Hospital, ICU occupancy and new admissions due to COVID-19 were high or had increased compared in 26 countries. Among them, also Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
