(ANSA) - TRIESTE - Pressure on the respective governments to
encourage the reopening of the Italian-Austrian border and joint
work between the three Regions to revive the economy in the
Euregio area in the post lockdown: these were the issues
addressed during a video-conference summit between the governor
of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Massimiliano Fedriga, his Carinthian
counterpart Peter Kaiser, and the deputy president of the Veneto
Region Gianpaolo Bottacin.A possible asymmetric reopening of the
borders, which could occur if the Austro-German border were
freed before the others, according to governor Massimiliano
Fedriga, "would hinder us for a relationship that should be
equal and between equals within European Union." On the same
line Kaiser, who ensured his commitment to the Austrian
executive. In terms of coronavirus infections, Friuli Venezia
Giulia and Carinthia record two and no hospitalizations in
intensive care, respectively. A step forward towards the tourist
recovery.Austria, underlined the councilor for productive
activities of the FVG Region, Sergio Bini, with its 9.1 million
presences recorded in 2019, plays a key role for regional
tourism which represents 13% of the GDP of the Region. "It is
important - Bini emphasized - that the Austrians are not afraid
and have the opportunity to enjoy their holidays or possibly
their second home in our region."To foster the economic recovery
within the area, Fedriga then suggested the creation of
"trilateral meeting points with our companies to implement
common strategies and exploit the available European resources."
The proposal was welcomed both by the Veneto Region and the Land
of Carinthia and will be discussed in a new videoconference
meeting scheduled for June 10. (ANSA).
