Covid: Slovenia, infections rise, toward the third wave

Positivity rate at 19.5%. Concern over English variant

23 March, 17:59
(ANSA) - UDINE, 23 MAR - LJUBLJANA, 23 MARCH - In Slovenia, due to the worsening of the pandemic, hospitals' situation is becoming increasingly complex with 507 people hospitalized, 72 of whom in recent days, and those in intensive care are 96, and the figure is growing. The hospital beds coordinator at the Ministry of Health, Robert Carotta, reported during the daily press conference on the coronavirus spread.

According to data released by the government, 5,022 molecular swabs were carried out in the last 24 hours, which tested positive in 981 cases, equal to 19.5%. Nine people died.

Experts think that the so-called British variant of the coronavirus is spreading rapidly and could soon result in the third wave of infections.

The country seems bound to enter the red range within a few weeks, whereas now it is orange, with some timid openings of outdoor spaces for some clubs. Yesterday's meeting of the expert advisory group did not clarify whether the government would be recommended to introduce new restrictions. The next council of ministers should take place in two days. (ANSA).
