Paxos to host music fest with reggae from Europe and Africa

Three days of concerts with message of peace and freedom

22 August, 10:14
(ANSAmed) - NAPLES, AUGUST 22 - The Greek island of Paxos will become the capital of international reggae music for three days with the Paxos Reggae Festival from August 29 to August 31.

The festival will invade the white-sand beaches with film screenings, debates, and music by African, Italian, and Greek artists for a full programme of seaside concerts in Lakka Bay.

Festival organisers said the concept of the trinity has a central meaning in the conscience of reggae and rastafari, and said it is a joint effort to bring together artists from Italy, Africa, and Greece, with the "desire to share music, peace, and freedom, to feel the Earth as one continent and country to love for each of us".

African musicians and musicians from the African diaspora bring a rich and unique musical, cultural, and spiritual tradition throughout the world, and at the festival they will play a programme with notable names in the European, Italian, and Greek reggae world.

Artists include the Italian-Senegalese Awa Fall, Innacantina, Mr. Joint Selecta, and Sealow.

Artists coming to Greece from Africa include the Ghanaians Xali Hali and Koblavi Dogah, the percussionist-dancer who aims to save traditional music and dance also by teaching.

There will also be musicians from Uganda, the Gambia, and Zimbabwe.

Artists from Greece include Mamaletta, Triggafinga and the collective 4DubVibes, from Larissa in central Greece.

Organisers said the festival on the island just south of Corfu aims to spread a positive message of unity, solidarity, and respect.

Together with the association Plastic Free Paxos, the festival will be plastic free, offering large containers from which to take drinks in festival cups, one per person without straws, which will be distributed upon payment of deposit to give them value.

The programme also contains collective events of monitoring and beach cleaning as well as a debate/workshop on environmental problems, in particular plastic.(ANSAmed).
