Migrants: irregular entries to Slovenia more than doubled

Police registered 50,622 cases in the first ten months of 2023

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, NOV 16 - The Slovenian police recorded 50,622 cases of irregular migrants crossing the border during the first ten months of the year, according to official data cited by the Slovenian news agency STA. This figure is more than double what was recorded during the same period last year. The proportion of migrants intercepted who are Afghan citizens is the highest at 15,915, followed by individuals from Pakistan and Morocco at 7,668 and 5,105, respectively. In addition, Afghans submitted the most asylum applications in Slovenia (13,748), followed by Moroccans (6,980), Pakistanis (4,532), Bangladeshis (3,157), and Russians (2,646). (ANSA).
