(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 03 FEB - TRIESTE, FEBRUARY 3 - A cooperation project between the Laboratory of Molecular Virology of Icgeb (Trieste) and the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Nicole Testemitanu" of the Republic of Moldova, launched with a grant from the Friuli VG Region, aims at consolidating Moldova's research capabilities in the fight against Covid-19 and supporting the establishment of a permanent infrastructure for the surveillance of coronaviruses and other human viruses.

The two above mentioned entities will cooperate to improve research capacities in the field of infectious diseases and health surveillance systems. "The project will allow Moldovan researchers to acquire new skills in molecular virology and study particularly the molecular evolution of SARS-Cov-2 circulating in Moldova, through specialized training and reciprocal visits," said the head of the Molecular Virology laboratory at ICGEB, Alessandro Marcello. "The partners will exchange protocols and materials and will conduct joint experiments and surveys on the Moldovan virus isolates," added the vice-rector for Research of the Nicolae Testemitanu University, Stanislav Groppa.
