Kosovo, US envoy calls again for respect of agreements

Belgrade-Pristina deals are a legal obligation: Escobar

04 November, 17:16

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 04 NOV - The agreements already concluded between Belgrade and Pristina are a legal obligation for both sides, which are therefore required to comply. This is what U.S.
Special Envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar said, issuing another call for the continuation of dialogue for the normalization of relations and the resolution of the Kosovo crisis.
In statements to the Voice of America broadcaster, picked up by Serbian media, Escobar referred to recent meetings in Brussels between the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo with EU and U.S. officials. There, he underlined, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said he was ready to accept and sign the draft statute for the creation of the Community of Serb-majority municipalities in Kosovo, while Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic reiterated that he would not accept anything that implies a de facto recognition of Kosovo's independence.
These positions, Escobar said, "do not reflect reality" and commitments made to the EU and US. On the one hand, he remarked, there is the creation of the Community of Serbs, and on the other hand, the recognition of Kosovo's customs documents, license plates, and personal identity documents.
