Kosovo: EU looks forward to new government, reforms

Pristina should collaborate to reach an agreement with Serbia

15 February, 16:42
(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 15 FEB - "We look forward to the inauguration of the new Parliament and the government, as well as the election of the new president," wrote the EU High Representative, Josep Borrell, and the EU Commissioner for Enlargement Olivér Varhelyi, commenting on yesterday's vote in Kosovo. "The EU will continue to collaborate with the authorities to support the country in achieving tangible progress along the European path - they added - through structural reforms and regional cooperation." "The EU has deployed a mission of electoral experts that will remain in Kosovo to follow the post-electoral procedures and make recommendations," added Borrell and Varhelyi, specifying that Pristina's European integration "also requires the normalization" of relations "with Serbia." For this reason, Brussels "is confident that the new Kosovar authorities will collaborate constructively to continue the meetings of the EU mediated dialogue and will seize the opportunity they have to reach a global agreement."
