Covid: CNR, cases rising in 2 out of 3 EU states

Italy close to France and Slovenia, above the EU average

(ANSA) - ROME, 15 MAR - There is an increasing trend of Coronavirus cases in two-thirds of European countries, and the current figures of the average incidence curve in Italy, France, and Slovenia are very close to each other and higher than the European average rate. The result emerges from the analysis of Covid cases' curves across the European countries in recent weeks, conducted by mathematician Giovanni Sebastiani of the 'Mauro Picone' Institute for Calculation Applications of the National Research Council (CNR-IAC).

The curves of the average incidence of infections in recent weeks for the states of the European Union "have grown in two-thirds of cases" and the Czech Republic recorded the most significant increase (115 new cases per day per 100,000 inhabitants), followed by Estonia (110), Montenegro (90), Hungary (72) and Sweden (65).

With 38 new cases per day per 100,000 inhabitants, Italy is close to France (37) and Slovenia (37), which are thus above the European average of 33 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

The curve is slightly down in Luxembourg (37), whereas it is flat in Slovenia (37) and Switzerland (18). Below the European average is Latvia (29), Albania (24), Lithuania (17), Spain (15), Belarus (11), Ireland (10), Portugal (7), Russia (7), and Iceland (0.7), whereas the UK curve (9), albeit downward, "is gradually flattening out." These last five countries, Sebastiani underlined, have also reached the current values ;;that are smaller than the average incidence curve. (ANSA).
