The GIMBE health foundation said Thursday that the number of over-50s in Italy having their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine increased by 28.1% in the week of January 12-18 compared to the previous seven days.
The government has made it obligatory for all over-50s to be vaccinated for the coronavirus as of February 15.
It said the overall rise in number of new vaccines in the week in question was much smaller, 2.8%.
GIMBE also said the rise in new COVID cases has slowed in the last seven days, with a increased of 3%.
COVID-related deaths, however, were up by 49.7%, it said.
