Italy may become a "normal" country if the huge EU-funded National Recovery and Resilience plan (NRRP) succeeds in achieving key structural reforms to the civil service and justice system, among other things, Economy Minister Daniele Franco said Wednesday.
"If the NextGeneration EU project is successful, it is probable that the EU public finance instruments become normal operational instruments." he told the winners of the NRRP competition for civil servants.
"The outcome of the Italian plan will be decisive.
"Italy is being asked to start growing again, to create jobs, to become an innovative country.
"If this happens, it will give confidence to Europe also on the capacity of innovative instruments to contribute to the dynamic of our economies." The NRRP, which is getting the lion's share of EU grants and low-interest loans under the NextGen scheme, calls for a transformation of the economy in an innovative and green way while slashing red tape and speeding a snail-paced justice system to lure investors and spur growth which has been sluggish for decades.
