The Uffizi is urging Germany
to return an 18th-century Dutch Rococo painting stolen by the
Nazis in the Second World War.
The director of the storied Florence gallery, Eike Schmidt,
on Tuesday put up a print of Jan van Huysum's Vase of Flowers in
the room it had been admired in until 1943.
The black and white photo was labelled 'Stolen' in Italian,
English and German.
The German family that came into possession of the work wants
to sell it back to the Uffizi but the Florentine gallery says it
must be returned free of charge.
